It’s simple to splice together two pieces of corrugated pipe. Just cut a section of single-wall pipe with four complete ribs (outlined in silver in the splice above). With the pipes butted together, snap your splice over the joint. Don’t worry about the gap; it doesn’t matter. Add wire or cable ties in the grooves at each end to hold the whole works together. Cable ties are easier. They should hold up forever as long as they’re out of the sun. If you don’t have ties that are long enough, no sweat. Just gang 2 or 3 together.

The homemade 90 uses 5 cable ties threaded through small holes drilled in the 45 degree pipe ends. It’s a little fussy to make, but much cheaper than buying one. I occasionally use one as part an entry canopy. They’re handy because they’ll swivel 360 degrees. Double-wall pipe holds its shape better than single in these contraptions. Believe it or not, even with this rigid pipe, you can snap it into a 4 3/8” hole with only minor cussing. I push one edge into the first groove and rotate the pipe until it snaps in. Since this takes some persuasion, I do this step BEFORE I place the canopy. It’s much easier than trying to do it while groveling on the ground!
